LO1: (M1) Discuss the uses and benefits of having a personal media profile

Both digital and physical portfolios are useful to present your work and are commonly used in the present day. They have many benefits however some limitations.

A digital portfolio is a great way to present your cinematography work to the intended audience as it allows you to show them your skills via examples from videos you've made which wouldn't be possible if you was to do a physical portfolio. These would be great for job interviews and universities as it allows you to show of all your skills on one portfolio.

Although a physical portfolio wouldn't be as useful if I was to showcase my skills on cinematography this is because you cant show examples of your finished work on paper, however, you can use a physical portfolio for interviews or educational work as it gives the company a sense of how you plan your work and what you did to get the finished project, this can be via mood boards, mind maps, blue sky thinking and other techniques shown physically.

Another great use for digital portfolios is that it is useful to present your ideas to anyone globally as they can access it via the web due to web2.0, this makes it great for if you are applying for a job or university in another country as they can access all your work without meeting you face to face first. In contrast with physical portfolios as it could be risky sending your work of to another country as it could get lost or damaged this would make it time consuming for you to replace and may not be as beneficial to the company as it would be having a digital portfolio in front of them to access on a quicker and easier timescale then sending off for a physical one.
