LO1: (P1) Explain the purpose of a personal media profile

A personal media profile is an organised sample of your work and skill set such as a CV. They are usually used when applying for a job or university. This Is because it allows organisations to have an understanding and proof of what useful skills you possess. It also gives an employer/Uni to get an understanding of some of your capabilities, this is also useful for interviews where they can access your personal media profile whether it be digital or physical.

Digital portfolio example: http://brendanbarnes.com/about

This is an example of a digital portfolio which clearly presents his work in cinematography. This portfolio would be used for jobs if he was to make a new music video for someone for example and creating short films for clients. The purpose of this portfolio is to allow and present their works clearly and in the best way to serve the purpose to his audience so they understand what skills and talents he has. This particular portfolio is presented easy and is simple to navigate around each section of his website. It has also been digitised which means it is accessible on a range of devices which is useful for employers, universities etc

This personal media profile would have to be adapted for a particular pathway for a university course for example rather than a job it wouldn't need as much discussion on his 'about' page and contact as it would be more relevant for a job interview for example. Although the purpose would be the same to show his skills of for the needs of what the employer or university is looking for, as the purpose is to inform them of the skills you hold.

  Physical Portfolio example-https://youtu.be/ppuPSGdpHt8

This physical portfolio also portrays the work of a persons skills in visual communications which shows rough sketches of their work and how they progressed through it, this would be similar if I was to do a cinematography portfolio as it is showing how I got to the end result. Similarly like the digital portfolio the proposes are the same, which are to present you skills and work to a client, job/ higher education in the best and easiest way possible. As you can see the physical portfolio includes the same amount of work as a digital however, it is formatted and presented differently. The digital portfolio could be a website for example showcasing their work and the physical portfolio could be a sketchbook.

A personal portfolio may be adapted to suit the intended target audience demographics to ensure that they are being presented with quality work which it is suitable to that subject or organisation. An example of this would be if the portfolio has too much unnecessary info so may need to be changed to add more information on the subject or work you are showing it too, this will make it relevant and the audience will have an easier time understanding your skills.
